Greenward's October Favorites

Recycling in Cambridge
We are commonly asked by customers where they can recycle or properly dispose of various items that they are ready to part with.  The Cambridge Department of Public Works has a very useful page that covers just about anything you would want to get rid of.

Living With Ed
This show has become increasingly popular at our house.  Ed Begley, Jr. plays a reality-show version of himself, the earliest of adopters of any eco-friendly device on the market, much to the consternation of his more conventional spouse.  Bill Nye appears as the nutty single-guy neighbor who is always showing up Ed with his better solar system or tidier organic garden.
Hello!

Welcome to the October edition of the monthly Greenward newsletter!  October is shaping up to be a crazy busy month for us--first off, we're getting married at the end of the month, the planning for which is of course taking up all of our spare time.  Second, and perhaps more relevant to you, dear reader, is that we have been placing a flurry of orders for new products for our first holiday season at Greenward.

We are pretty excited about all the new things coming into the store, and you will be too!  We will feature some of the new things here in the newsletter as they arrive--see below for what's already here...
Spotlight on...Et Cetera Media
Et Cetera Nano Et Cetera Money Et Cetera iPod

Et Cetera Media is a Boston-based company making lots of cleanly designed and useful items from thick, sustainable wool felt.  We have pouches in four sizes, laptop sleeves, and cases for iPods.  They are working on a line of home goods as well, so be on the lookout for those!
Spotlight on...Twist Sponges and Loofah Art
Loofah BeetLoofah SliceTwist Line
We have a few new products to help you green your cleaning: Loofah-Art scrubbers and Twist Sponges.

Loofah-Art makes a huge selection of fruit- and vegetable- and animal-shaped loofah scrubbers for the kitchen.  Loofah sponges are made from the inside of the loofah gourd.  They are 100% natural and biodegradable, gentle enough for scrubbing vegetables and non-stick cookware, tough enough to clean up after your most tragic culinary experiments.

Twist "set out to turn the world of cleaning products on its head - combining design and environmental responsibility to create functional, beautiful, and responsible alternatives."  We have their full line: the Loofah Sponge, a biodegradable cellulose sponge with a loofah backing; and the Euro Sponge and Euro Towel, both super-absorbent sponges.  Each Euro Towel replaces 17 rolls of paper towels!  You get three in a pack, so that's like four trips to Costco avoided right there! Plus, the packaging can be transformed into a birdhouse just by following the printed instructions!
Spotlight on...DB Clay Wallets

DB Clay Feathers DB Clay Faith

The folks at DB Clay got their start making wallets out of duct tape and selling them at the Portland (OR) Saturday Market.  Thousands of "ductbills" later, they are now making their striking and unique Version 3 wallets from a fabric they call "Tope" (sounds like dope).  "Tope
is a synthetic fabric similar (in texture) to a vinyl canvas. However, Tope does not contain certain hazardous chemicals typically found in most vinyl-based products. In particular,
Tope contains NO PVC, Tope is made from non-toxic raw materials (it causes no dioxin, heavy metal or phthalate pollution), Tope decomposes when buried, Tope is chlorine chemicals free and Tope is fabricated through a pollutant free process. Additionally, we have engineered a tremendously technical printing process whereby we print high resolution and full photographic images using environmentally friendly inks."

Also, these wallets are the best looking thing to put money in since you broke that Fabergé piggy-bank!
Pinecone+Chickadee

Owl Baby Makes 3 Silly Bird

The unstoppable juggernaut of cuteness that is the Greenward stationery selection gets a bunch cuter with the addition of cards and journals from Pinecone+Chickadee.  P+C is the family business of Amy and Noah, who hand silk-screen their whimsical designs on recycled paper at their base of operations in Maine.
Thanks for reading our newsletter. We'll see you in the shop!

Sincerely,
Scott & Simone
