This Month's Favorites The Reality Campaign The
Reality Campaign is dedicated to getting the word out about the reality
of "clean" coal (spoiler alert: not so clean). They enlisted the
Coen brothers to do an ad for them that helps clear the air on this
subject.
MNN.com At
a time when several green-themed magazines and web sites seem to be
disappearing, MNN.com is a welcome newcomer. Founded by Rolling
Stones keyboardist Chuck Leavell of all people, the Mother Nature
Network has a large staff of bloggers on varied environmental topics,
environmental news, and a growing library of videos. The video
highlight of the moment is the return of Ted Turner's ahead-of-his-time
cartoon environmental superhero, Captain Planet.

Hello!
As reported in the last newsletter, Greenward is having a...
Grand Opening Party This
Thursday, March 12 from 6pm - 8pm. We have an awesome roster of
like-minded local producers of organic treats joining us. We hope
to have an equally awesome roster of our customers to come and sample
them and join us in celebrating our new location. To sweeten the
pot even more, everything in the store* will be 15% off during the party!
*excluding items already on sale.
Come enjoy the cavalcade of savings, along with samples and representatives from:
 Peak Organic Brewing Company Peak
Organic's beers are made with organic barley and hops in Portland, ME
as a toast to life's peak experiences. They brew excellent
classic pale ales, nut brown ales, and amber ales, as well as some
unconventional styles like their Espresso Amber Ale, the first
Fair Trade Certified™ beer brewed in the United States. We
hope to have founder Jon Cadoux here to join us and gloat about how
great it is to make beer for a living.
 Stone Hearth Pizza Stone
Hearth Pizza has locations in Belmont, Needham, and just a few doors
down from Greenward in Porter Square, Cambridge. They make
sublime Neopolitan-style thin-crust pizzas with 100% organic flour and
as many other organic and locally-sourced ingredients as
possible. They also have delectable salads, sandwiches, pastas,
and beer and wine. Check out their menu on their web site for a
map of their many local suppliers (including Peak Organic!).
Taza Chocolate Anyone who has shopped at Greenward ought to know by now about Taza Chocolate, Somerville's own bean-to-bar, direct-trade,
stone-ground, organic chocolate company. Their chocolate has a
pure, intense flavor that is like no other on the market. A cup
of hot chocolate made with their new guajillo chili-flavored Chocolate Mexicano discs is the perfect way to warm up on one of the many cold, snowy nights we have been having here lately.
Greenward is on Facebook We
know you're a fan of Greenward, but do all of your friends know?
Now that Greenward is on Facebook, you've got an easy way to let them
know, along with all of those other acquaintances, co-workers, and
vaguely remembered people from your past that populate your friend
list. Status update suggestion: "...can't wait for the
Greenward grand opening party!" Click here to see our Facebook page.
Greenward on NECN NECN's New England Dream House
stopped by the store the other day to film a segment on
Greenward. Most New England cable subscribers should have
NECN--click here
to see what channel it's on. The segment will run several
times: March 15 at 10am and 7pm, and then at 3pm on March
16, 19, 24, 27, and April 1.
New Stuff: As usual, in addition to the news, we have some great new products available in the store and on-line. Have a look...

Chicobag rePETe Resusable Shopping Bags
|
ChicoBag's
original reusable shopping bags have been favorites at Greenward since
we introduced them. Chicobag has now upped the eco-ante with
their new rePETe bags, made from 99% recycled materials. Only the
thread holding it together, the screen printing, and the care label are
made from virgin materials. Seven plastic bottles are recycled to
make each bag. They are easy to stuff into the incorporated pouch when
not in use, and small enough to
keep in a pocket. Each bag includes a carabiner to hook it on for easy
access. Available in five colors. $8.99 each.

Wheatware
|

Wheatware
makes a fun, diverse, and affordable line of products out of
biodegradable, compostable bio-resin made in the USA of surplus
wheat. What other company can you name that makes yo-yos, travel
combs, clothes hangers, drumsticks, and guitar picks? And that's
just the stuff we carry at Greenward. Many customers have a hard
time believing that it's not just plastic. Have a look at what Wheatware looks like after 60 days of composting!
We're thinking of starting a Greenward Wheatware band-there's the yo-yo
maraca, guitar picks, drumsticks, and travel comb/wax paper
kazoo. We're still learning how to play the clothes hanger,
though. Wheatware products, $1 - $14.
