Greenward's June Favorites

Gaining Ground
Gaining Ground is an organic farm in nearby Concord, MA.  Don't look for their vegetables in the local farmer's market, though--all of their produce is donated to area meal programs and food pantries.  A great cause!

Green Dimes
Green Dimes will stop all your junk mail for a dime a day, and plant a tree on your behalf each month.
Hello!

Welcome to the third edition of the monthly Greenward newsletter!

Don't forget that Father's day is coming right up: Sunday, June 17! We're pretty sure Dad doesn't need another tie--so stop by and pick up something he'll appreciate, like one of our thoughtfully chosen books (see below).

The word is getting out: see the great recent media converage of Greenward on our press page.
Summer Reading...

If you are totally unlike us, then you have plenty of time to catch up on your reading this summer.  We have some great books to fill up your leisurely hours at the beach, you lucky dogs.

Barbara Kingsolver - Animal, Vegetable, Mineral
The acclaimed novelist tells the story of her family's year of eating locally.

Paul Hawken - Blessed Unrest
The author of Natural Capitalism gives an inspiring history of the environmental and social justice movements.

Wendy Williams and Robert Whitcomb - Cape Wind
A chronicle of the battle to bring wind power to Nantucket Sound.

Bill McKibben - Deep Economy
This book by author of one of the first books to warn of the dangers of global warming, The End of Nature, sounds a similar warning about the "growth at any cost" economy.  McKibben suggests moving to a "deep economy" based on sustainable local production.

Megan McDonald - Judy Moody Saves the World
This is one for the younger set--the third in the Judy Moody series, in which third-grader Judy Moody discovers that saving the world isn't as easy as she thought.

Michael Pollan - Omnivore's Dilemma
This "natural history of four meals," Pollan gives an entertaining account of industrial agriculture, organic food production, eating local foods, and what it's like to be a modern-day hunter/gatherer.

Spotight on...Knoend lite2go

hanging lamp

Knoend's motto is "ecodesign for everyone."  They seek to "improve the experience and value of an object AND minimize or eliminate its environment impact."

Their first product is the lite2go, which is a versatile light in a clever package - no package at all!  The lite2go's packaging is part of the lampshade, and is made from recyclable polypropylene.  The lamp includes a cord and an energy-efficient compact fluorescent bulb.  It can be hung from the ceiling as a chandelier, or used as a table lamp.  When you're done with it, you can send the entire lamp back to Knoend for recycling.
